There's a lot I like about this little painting. I think I may do a larger version, but I may change a few things. If you have any gut responses to the compositon- especially constructive criticism- I'd love to hear them! I really value the input I get from fellow painters.
I don't have any constructive criticism because I love it the way it is! I have not tried any figures in oils but these flesh colors look great to me and I like the composition. It makes me want to see what they are looking at out in the ocean!
ReplyDeleteI really like everything about this.I'd like to be sitting on that beach. You perfectly captured the feel of a sunny day at the coast. If I had one question it would be about the angle of the man's leg.I don't know, do you think it leads the eye out of the composition?
ReplyDeleteBelle composition riche en lumière...
ReplyDeleteBisous
I agree with Dennis. The gentleman's legs and the stron tilt to the shore lead your eye right out of the painting. Because there is the kind of empty space in the top left corner, there isn't really anything to bring us back in. Really a very lovely job with the flesh tones. You really did a fantastic job with the people!
ReplyDeleteThanks to Shelby and Doug for the compositional input. You to confirm what I suspected. In fact, I added the green beach towel to try to bring the eye back in to the composition. I may change this painting, or just try it again with the corrections. Thanks!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks very nice.
ReplyDeleteI miss the warmness of the sun !
Layne,
ReplyDeleteJust lovely composition and the skin tones are really, really good. Love all the bits of sunshine on them. I am new to all of this so was interested in what the artists above said about the leg leading your eye out- I did not find that so but was busy looking at the skin and colors:) Really wonderful and I think would be great done bigger also:)
Love the looseness and energy in this. Definitely try it larger!
ReplyDeleteYour brushwork is such a huge part of your painting. It really adds energy.
ReplyDeleteI like the composition. It's a lovely painting. I agree it would be wonderful bigger! I'm always for bigger...
